Surge Entertainment West Monroe: Prices, What's Inside & Is It Worth It

Surge Entertainment sits at the edge of West Monroe on Mane Street, a few turns off I-20. I showed up on a Thursday morning before they opened. A woman at the front let me in anyway, which was kind of her, and I spent a few minutes reading a framed newspaper article near the entrance about how Drew Brees got into this business. Then a tall gentleman came over and let me know they don't actually open until 10. So I went outside, waited about ten minutes, and came back in.

Once I got past the arcade noise at the entrance, the place just kept going. It's much bigger than I expected, and the pricing took some figuring out.

What Is Surge Entertainment?

That framed article I read while waiting? It's from The Advocate, dated November 2019, and it tells the whole story of how Drew Brees ended up co-owning a family entertainment center in West Monroe.

The short version: Brees brought his son Bowen to a birthday party at Darren Balsamo's Metairie location. They connected over having big families (Brees has four kids, Balsamo has five) and decided to build something together. Brees put it this way: "We know what it's like as a family to try to find a place to go out and eat and not have your kids go stir crazy after 20 minutes."

Lafayette was the first Surge location. West Monroe came next. They now operate in six cities across Louisiana and Alabama.

What's Inside Surge West Monroe

You walk in through the arcade, which is loud and smells like every arcade you've ever been in. Past the prize counters, though, the space opens up into something else entirely.

I turned a corner and there's this massive bowling area with screens the size of a movie theater above the lanes. Blue and neon lighting everywhere. What surprised me was the setup: couches and tables right next to the lanes instead of the plastic chairs you'd get at a normal alley. The VIP section is off to the side, quieter, nicer seating. Honestly, for a date night in Monroe that isn't dinner and a movie, it's not a bad option.

Then I noticed this huge two-story play structure with an orange spiral slide and a zip line at the top. A few families had their kids running through it while the parents sat in lounge chairs a few feet away, which seemed like the whole point. There's a separate soft play area for smaller kids who aren't ready for the big structure.

They've got sports simulators in private bays. I peeked into one and someone was mid-swing on a golf sim. At $28/hour I wasn't about to try it myself, but the Monday deal ($20/hour) makes it more tempting.

At the back there's an actual restaurant. Not a snack counter. Sit-down tables, a full bar, big screens tuned to sports. I was surprised it felt like a separate place from the arcade chaos ten feet away. More on the food deals below.

Pricing is per activity, not a single admission ticket. Here's what everything costs as of summer 2026.

Bowling, traditional lanes:

• Non-peak hours: $24 per hour per lane
• Peak hours: $45 per hour per lane
• Peak = Friday after 5 PM, all day Saturday and Sunday, selected holidays
• Shoe rental separate

Bowling, VIP lanes:

• Non-peak: $50 per hour per lane
• Peak: $70 per hour per lane
• Shoes included. Minimum 2 lanes, maximum 6 in the VIP section

Peak pricing is steep. A family of four bowling on a Saturday at $45/hour plus shoe rentals adds up fast. Go on a Tuesday and the lane drops to $24, saving you $21 per hour.

All-In Fun Pass: $25 per person. Two hours of unlimited laser tag, ninja course, ropes course, soft play, and climbing features. $25 per head felt steep at first, but watching how much time kids actually spent on the play structures and ropes course, I get it. If your kids will use the climbing and laser tag, this is the deal that makes Surge worth the trip.

Arcade. Play cards start at $2.50. One hour of arcade play runs $15 per person.

Daily Deals and Seasonal Specials

The deals are where Surge gets more affordable.

Monday Mania. Sports simulator rentals for $20 per hour, all day 10 AM to 10 PM. That's $8 off the normal rate.

Together Thursday. $65 covers one hour of bowling, one pizza, four shoe rentals, and four soft drinks. For a family of four on a Thursday night, this is the deal to know about.

$17.76 bowling special. One hour of bowling for up to 6 people. Check availability when you book.

10 Buck Bites. $10 gets an entree, fries, and a soft drink. The Surge Sampler has a crawfish egg roll, mozzarella sticks, meat pie, and Who Dat Shrimp. There are also burgers, chicken sandwiches, half po-boys, quesadillas, and personal pizzas. For $10 at a place where bowling costs $45/hour on a Saturday, the lunch deal feels like the most practical thing on the menu.

Free bowling for kids this summer. Through August 2026, kids 14 and under bowl free Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 2 PM. Shoe rental is $4. Ages 15 and up pay $5 per game. If you've got kids and you're looking for free things to do in Monroe this summer, this is one of the better options.

Even on a quiet Thursday morning, I could tell this place is a birthday party machine. The VIP bowling section is set up for it. For bigger groups, the adults can bowl while the kids run wild on the ropes course, and nobody has to coordinate anything because the restaurant handles the food.

It's cashless. Every transaction is card-only, including arcade play cards.

Download the app. It handles reservations and play card balances. There are occasionally app-only deals.

Go on a weekday. Weekday mornings are the quietest and cheapest. Friday and Saturday nights mean peak pricing and bigger crowds. The difference between a Tuesday and a Saturday can be $21 per hour on bowling alone.

Plan for two hours minimum. Between bowling, the Fun Pass activities, and eating, two hours is the floor.
