Surge Entertainment West Monroe: Prices, What's Inside & Is It Worth It

Surge Entertainment sits at the edge of West Monroe on Mane Street, a few turns off I-20, in a building big enough that you can miss the entrance if you are not looking for it. Inside, it runs deeper than you would expect: bowling lanes with stadium-sized screens, a two-story laser tag arena, ninja obstacles, climbing walls, a ropes course, an arcade, and a full restaurant with a bar. We went on a weekday afternoon to see what everything costs and whether the place holds up beyond the name on the sign.

What Is Surge Entertainment?

Surge Entertainment Centers are family entertainment centers that bundle multiple activities under one roof. Drew Brees and Darren Balsamo are co-owners. The partnership started at a birthday party. Brees brought his son Bowen to the Metairie location, which Balsamo was running at the time. The two connected over being parents of big families (Brees has four kids, Balsamo has five) and decided to build something together.

A framed newspaper article from The Advocate hangs near the entrance of the West Monroe location, dated November 2019, telling that story. Lafayette was the first Surge location. West Monroe was planned from the beginning. Brees put it this way: "We know what it's like as a family to try to find a place to go out and eat and not have your kids go stir crazy after 20 minutes."

Surge now operates in Baton Rouge, Bossier City, Lafayette, Metairie, Mobile, and West Monroe.

What's Inside Surge West Monroe

The front entrance opens into the arcade section, Game Mechanix, with rows of machines and prize counters. Past that, the space fans out into separate zones.

Bowling. Traditional lanes and VIP lanes. The traditional section has giant HD screens above the lanes with colored lighting that shifts throughout the night. VIP bowling is tucked away in a separate area with plush couches, a quieter feel, and shoes included in the price. Bumpers and bowling ramps are available for kids. If you are looking for a date night in Monroe, VIP bowling is a solid option that most people do not think of.

Laser tag. A multi-level arena with ramps, barriers, and blacklight effects.

Ninja course and ropes course. Rope obstacles, balance beams, and a zip line section. Designed for all ages, not just kids.

Climbing features and soft play. A multi-story play structure with slides and colorful climbing sections. The soft play area is built for younger children who are not ready for the ninja course.

Sports simulators. Private bays with full-swing simulators covering golf, tennis, baseball, and football. The tracking is responsive and the bays are big enough for small groups.

Restaurant and full bar. A sit-down dining area with large screens, a full liquor bar, and a menu that goes beyond the usual arcade fare. More on that below.

Pricing at Surge is per activity, not a single admission ticket. Here is what each activity costs as of summer 2026.

Bowling, traditional lanes:

• Non-peak hours: $24 per hour per lane
• Peak hours: $45 per hour per lane
• Peak = Friday after 5 PM, all day Saturday and Sunday, selected holidays
• Shoe rental separate

Bowling, VIP lanes:

• Non-peak: $50 per hour per lane
• Peak: $70 per hour per lane
• Shoes included. Minimum 2 lanes, maximum 6 in the VIP section

All-In Fun Pass: $25 per person. Two hours of unlimited access to laser tag, ninja course, ropes course, soft play, and climbing features. This is the best deal if you want to do more than bowl.

Arcade. Play cards start at $2.50. One hour of arcade play runs $15 per person.

Daily Deals and Seasonal Specials

Surge runs recurring deals that bring the prices down, especially on weekdays.

Monday Mania. Sports simulator rentals for $20 per hour, all day from 10 AM to 10 PM.

Together Thursday. $65 covers one hour of bowling, one pizza, four shoe rentals, and four soft drinks. A workable deal for a family of four.

$17.76 bowling special. One hour of bowling for up to 6 people. Check availability when you book.

10 Buck Bites. $10 gets you an entree, fries, and a soft drink. Options: the Surge Sampler (crawfish egg roll, mozzarella sticks, meat pie, Who Dat Shrimp), All American Burger, chicken sandwich, half po-boy with shrimp or catfish, Southern style quesadilla, or a personal pizza. A full bar is also available with summer drink specials.

Free bowling for kids this summer. Through August 2026, kids 14 and under bowl free Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 2 PM. Shoe rental is $4 per person. Ages 15 and up pay $5 per game. This is one of the genuine free things to do in Monroe during the summer months.

Birthday Parties and Group Events

Surge handles birthday parties, corporate events, church groups, school outings, college groups, reunions, and holiday parties. Surge is cashless. Bring a card. Every transaction, including arcade play cards, is card-only.

Download the Surge app. Available on iOS and Android. It handles reservations, play card balances, and occasionally has app-exclusive deals.

Best times to go. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest and cheapest (non-peak bowling rates). Friday evenings and weekends mean peak pricing and bigger crowds.

Plan for at least two hours. Between bowling, the All-In Fun Pass activities, and eating, two hours is the minimum to feel like you covered enough ground.
