4th of July in Monroe, LA: Your 2026 Guide to Parades, Fireworks, and Family Fun

This year's Independence Day carries extra weight: 2026 marks America's 250th birthday, and Monroe and West Monroe are marking the occasion with a full day of free events along the Ouachita River.
From a morning parade to a fireworks and drone show at night, here is everything happening on July 4th in the Twin Cities, including where to go, what it costs, and where to park.
Before July 4th
Flags of Freedom Celebration
The official kickoff to Independence Day weekend, hosted by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. Anna Gray Noe Park transforms into a walk-through celebration of American history with storytelling from Strauss Theater and food trucks.

Downtown West Monroe: 250th Birthday Celebration
The flagship event of the day, presented by Graphic Packaging International. Six things packed into one day, all in or around Alley Park.

4th of July Children's Parade
Hosted by Monroe Rotary, kids decorate bikes, scooters, and wagons in red, white, and blue for a short patriotic procession. The morning also includes free face painting, watermelon and snow cones, popsicles, tours of emergency vehicles like firetrucks and ambulances, and games.

Twin Cities 250th Anniversary Parade
Hosted by the Krewe of Janus, this parade marks America's 250th birthday with floats, marching bands, the Krewe de Riviere, Blue Star Moms, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Four veterans serve as Grand Marshals: Robert Strayhan (WWII), Boyce Free (Korea), Tom Cruise (Vietnam), and Chris Bullock (Iraq and Afghanistan), with over 80 years of combined service. Note: no walkers alongside floats this year. Keep children at a safe distance from moving floats.

Red, White, & Blue at the Zoo
Hosted by the zoo and Bayou Bowl, this is patriotic family entertainment with carnival games, prizes, food trucks, local vendors, a pizza eating contest, and access to the zoo's animal exhibits.

Where to watch the fireworks
The Fireworks & Drone Show lights up the Ouachita River at 9 PM. The best viewing spots are along the West Monroe Levee, Downtown West Monroe, and Downtown Monroe, with views from both sides of the Endom Bridge.
Planning your day
Every event listed here is free except the hot dog contest entry and the 5K registration. With a run at 8 AM, parades starting at 9:30 AM, a zoo event and block party through midday, and West Monroe's 250th birthday bash running into a fireworks and drone show at night, you can build a full day around downtown Monroe and West Monroe without spending much at all.
Parking and road closures
With the parade crossing the Ouachita River and multiple events running simultaneously in both downtowns, expect road closures along Natchitoches Street, Trenton Street, and the Lea Joyner Bridge starting before 11 AM. 18th Street will be blocked from Wendy's Restaurant to Louisville Avenue. Official road closure details and parking maps will be posted before July 4th on the Downtown West Monroe and City of West Monroe Facebook pages.
Day-of tips
- Parade safety: No walkers alongside floats this year. Keep children at a safe distance from moving floats at all times.
- First aid and lost children: A medical and coordination unit will be set up at the Detective's Office on the corner of Cotton and Natchitoches Street in Downtown West Monroe, near Trenton Street.
- Heat: Cooling stations will be available along the parade route. Bring water and sunscreen, especially for the morning events.
