Last Saturday I covered Monroe's full Fourth. Five events, fourteen hours, two cities.
Fleet Feet race on DeSiard, children's parade at Triangle Park, floats throwing beads at the Twin Cities 250th parade downtown, the Good Daze block party in Art Alley, and a double rainbow over the levee in West Monroe right before the fireworks went off later.
Someone on a float threw me a patriotic hat. Worth every hour.
Road work: North 3rd and North 4th Street between Pine and Natchitoches are closed through July 9. McMillan Road near 1102 is closed through July 17. Plan your route.

Now hiring: Lo's Collective, the downtown marketplace on Trenton St in West Monroe, is looking for part-time team members starting in August. 2-3 days a week. If you love local finds and good people, reach out to them on Facebook.

Every kid under five in Ouachita Parish can get a free book in the mail every month. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library launched here earlier this year thanks to Bank of Oak Ridge and the Center for Children & Families. Enroll your kid (or tell a friend who has one) through the Imagination Library of Ouachita & Morehouse Parishes Facebook page.
"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence." Max Ehrmann wrote Desiderata in 1927. It reads like advice from a wise old friend.
